A 1lb 4oz Artic Char From Loch na Thull

A cold start to the month with winds in the north and east making the fish sluggish and the fishermen and women reluctant to go out. Although we had quite long stretches of sunshine the wind was so cold that the fish were keeping down.

Having said that the Hotels Brown Trout tally for the month was not too bad, at 458 fish caught. The best being 2.5lb to Ken Campbell taken off the Hush Lochs on the 28th of the month.

On the 16th of the month Mr. Wedderburn-Ogilvy had a suprise 10lb 10oz fresh run Salmon from the Lower Duart, having at one stage to play the Salmon and an opportunist Otter. However our guest was the more determined and eventually won the tug of war. The Salmon, after 1.5 hours, decided that the odds were stacked against him and finally came quietly to the net. (I don't know what you would call a Salmon and an Otter on the line at the same time ???)

Two small Grilse? were caught and returned from the Upper Duart on the 28th by Mr. Hodgkins and a Seatrout of 1.5lb came to David Chetta on the 5th. Again from the Duart system.

Best wishes and tight lines.

Patrick
