August 2003

Another very hot and dry month with some rain arriving on the 19th, this brought the rivers up enough for some salmon to run. These were salmon mainly that had been stuck in the lower pools of the river since early July. Since that brief drop of rain we have not had any more and conditions are dry again. However, the forecasters are suggesting that we will get some soon.

On a more positive note the trout fishing was quite good considering the conditions with 470 brown trout recorded in the fishing book with a personal best of 2lb 15oz to Paul Kirby off Stack on the 21st.

The seatrout returns were quite good again considering the conditions with 71 fish caught. Mr. Ogg caught a 2lb 8oz seatrout on the 21st off the Duart system. The River Polla for the week hotel guests fished it was superb, producing 14 seatrout between 1lb 8oz and 3lb 12oz and 4 salmon/grilse best 6lb - a number of fish were lost.

Stack produced 2 salmon after the rain 11lb 13oz to Monseuir Guiraud and one of 4lb 8oz to Paul Kirby, both cock fish and fresh in.

Tight lines,

Patrick
