Sunset over Scourie Bay by Colin Munro

August was a month of very mixed weather with some hot still days, but many wet and windy days. The temperature for the month was below average up here in the North West of Sutherland.

Our brown trout figures for the month were as follows;

633 recorded in the fishing log, mostly small to medium with the best being 2lb 14oz to Colin Munro and 2lb 2oz to Vince Kerr. Some larger Trout in the 2-3lb range came off one of the larger seatrout lochs.

Seatrout and Finnock for the month were; 188 recorded the best being 4lb to mr Horsborough and 3lb to Alan Maden.

Salmon numbers held up well with 24 Salmon/Grilse being booked. The best fish grassed for the month was 14lb 3oz to Jeff Curry. Marcel Kline had a good day with 4 fish of;4lb.4lb.5lb.6lb.from a local river. Bob Jeavons grassed a nice 10lb fish followed by another 3 on different days.His Grandson Joshua Woodman caught his first Salmon weighing in at 6lb then went on to grass 2 more on different days. For the record he is 16 years old.

Salmon and Grilse recorded for the month are as follows;

Michael Wycherley...7lb Jeff Curry...14lb 3oz Alan Maden...4lb.6lb.5.5lb. Jean Pierre Giraud...3.5lb.3lb. Roy Robinson...6.5lb.4.2lb Mr. Inglewood...3.5lb. Bob Jeavons...4lb.5lb.10lb.6lb. I hear on the grapevine that a 30lb plus was caught and returned in the last week of August on a local river.
