A Loch Stack Salmon |
With long periods of high wind and rain, trout fishers had a poor month. For the most part, the Trout lochs became very dour with just the occasional specimen topping 1 ¼ lbs. The exception was Loch Tigh Sealg (Stalker's) which generally benefits from a good gale. Several catches of 20-30 Trout were recorded with the majority returned. Bill Thompson landed 24 in one session and John Burnett had 28 later in the month. On Lower Duart the first Salmon of the season was taken by Jack Broomhead on the 22nd. Plenty of fish were seen before then but little angling attention had been paid to them. On Loch Stack 33 Sea Trout were landed, in general in very good condition and all were returned. Glen Wilson had the heaviest on a Kate McLaren. Eleven Salmon were taken with the best (8lbs) falling to Michael Wycherley. Mr Kirkby Guirand achieved the same honour with a 4 ½ Grisle. The hotel had fishing on the River Dionard for the second half of the month. six fresh Salmon were landed with low water curtailing activity in the second week. The Franklin party had 3 and Monsieur Guirand had one. Pat Price the hotel proprietor also had a Grisle from Loch Dionard. |
