A Brown Trout Of 2lbs 2oz caught by Colin Munro on Mid Chain

Apart from a brief spell of very welcome rain at the beginning of the month July was a bright, dry month. However the first half of the month had the wind set in the North which did not help the fly life on the Lochs. This particularly seemed to unsettle the Brown Trout in the Hill Lochs.

Salmon and Sea Trout fishing was very slow and what started as some very promising runs of fish in early July petered out as the water fell later in the month.

However, despite these setbacks guests recorded 574 brown trout, the best being 3lb 8oz to Don Montgomery, 2lb 9oz to Chris Cobb and a nice bag of three fish of 5lb 8oz to Mr.Owen.

Thirty seatrout/finnock were caught and returned the best being 3lb. Eight salmon were taken off Loch Stack including a very nice fish of 13lb 8oz to Robin Cohen and another beauty of 12lb 8oz to Alastair Anderson off Garbhaid Mor.

The Franklin family had another successful visit catching 36 salmon during their fortnight the best being 20lb, twenty-four of these fish were returned.

Reports seem to indicate that there are a lot more grilse waiting to come in on the North West Coast when we get the rain to bring up the water levels.

Tight Lines,

Regards

Patrick
