Before the report I would like to apologise for the shameless
inclusion of two pictures of myself in this month's report. They are included to
illustrate some of the fish caught and I would ask the reader to focus on the fish rather
than the idiot holding them ! I would also repeat my offer to include any photos taken by other Scourie visitors in future reports. If you have any then please send them to Patrick or myself and I will do my best with them. You have been warned - you don't want two pictures of me on the site again do you !?! Chris Cobb Now the report : July in the West was probably dryer than the East. Overall it was a cold month with wind in the North to North East for a large part . We did have 2 or 3 days of consistent rain in the middle of the month and the Franklin's were again having a successful time catching 21 salmon, the best being 12lbs - most were returned. Other than that the Salmon fishing has been slow - we are hoping for some late fish as reports are of unusually large shoals of sand eels off the coast which may be holding the grilse back and possibly the sea trout. Our Salmon totals for the Hotel Waters for July were 28 with 79 Seatrout/Finnock, best Seatrout were 3 - 3lb 8oz. Chris Cobb took two fresh Grilse of 6lb and 6lb 8oz on consecutive days. Mr. Guiraud took a fresh 4lb 8oz fish from Loch Dionard and the Keyser party took a fresh Grilse of 6lb from Loch More. Billy Faulkner landed a 6lb fish early in the month and Michael Wycherley was as usual consistent with two fish towards the end of the month of 6lb 8oz and 5lb both on the same day. Trout was excellent with 1179 recorded in the fishing log, best being fish of 4lb 14oz to Billy Faulkner and 4lb to Chris Cobb off Loch Stack, 2lbs off Divers Loch to Mr. Thorpe and 2lbs to 2lbs 4oz. to Mr. Kennedy off Hush Loch. STOP PRESS - Some late returns in for July are as follows:- The Montgomery party took a nice Brown Trout from Stack of 4lbs.10oz plus another 84 Brown Trout and 20 Seatrout/Finnock - the best being 2.5lbs. River Polla Michael Wycherley and I spent a pleasant four hours night fishing the Polla with seatrout of 4lbs 12oz, 3lbs and 2lbs 12oz. All fresh fish and taken in very low water conditions after midnight. Tight Lines for August Patrick Price
