July was a slightly Warmer month than June although not up to the
seasonal average. There was not much rain, although the early rain in May and June brought
some Salmon up into Loch Stack and Loch More. Most rods had some action, although a number of fish were lost due to poor hook holds. Brown Trout fishing was reasonably good with the water still quite cool for the time of year. Insect hatches were erratic and weather dependant. Seatrout/finnock catches have been encouraging with a good number of fish caught, all in good condition, no apparent sealice damage and some larger fish being caught and seen. BROWN TROUT 716 were recorded for the month, including the following; 4lb 12oz to Jane Meech on the 1st July off Fregairt beat;3lb 2oz to Richard Franklin on the 9th July off Blarloch Mor beat; 3lb 1oz to Alec Macallan on the 10th July off Mid Chain beat; 3lb to Jane Meech (again) on the 1st July off Fregairt; 2lb 8oz to R.Morgan and D.Jones on the 21st July off Eilanach beat; 2lb 3oz to J.Woodhams on the 12th July off Crocach beat; SEATROUT 161 Seatrout were recorded for the month, including the following; 3lb to Derek Rippengall off Stack; 3lb to Mr. Henzler off Stack; 2lb 5oz to Mr.Tompson off Stack; quite a number were caught in the 2lb range. All fish were returned. SALMON 10 Salmon were caught in total for the month; 10lb 8oz on the 2nd July to Mac Stevensons boat; 7lb 8oz to Jack Broomhead on the 10th July; 14lb to Mr.Freeman on the 17th July; 4lb to Derek Rippengall on the 20th July; all off Loch Stack. 7lb to Mr.Freeman on the 14th July off Loch More. The Franklin Party off that often mispronounced River caught 5 Salmon. Most of the Salmon were returned in accordance with the estates returns policy. |
