The Result's Of A Good Day On The River Dionard
The Falls Pool On Lower Duart After Rain
|
The hotel enjoyed a good, if somewhat mixed July. The heavy rainfall obviously benefited the Salmon anglers and high winds often suited the Sea Trout fishers, whereas Trout fishers would ideally have preferred a more settled period of weather. There was good head of Salmon in Loch Stack with many fish showing including some double figure individuals. Hotel guests were out in force and they landed 36 Sea Trout and 13 Salmon/Grilse. Chris Cobb had a very good week - 16 Sea Trout, the majority between 2 and 3 lbs and two Salmon (one from Loch Stack and one from Loch More). Frank Seaman, who has regularly fished hotel waters since 1946, took a a 6 ½ lb Salmon from Stack and a 4lb Grisle from Loch Garbet Beg. Jack Broomhead landed 11 Sea Trout (best 3lb) for his week and the Montgomery party had two Salmon. The Andersen party also took a 5lb Grisle and Michael Wycherley had an 8lb Salmon - the heaviest fish of the month. Piers Adamson achieved his first ever Salmon - one of 6lb from Stack. The same honour fell to Simon Currie with a 3lb Grisle. His father, Geoff Currie, took the best Brown for a year or two from Loch Stack at 5lb. The fish was in superb condition (not a Ferox) and fell to a size 10 Bloody Butcher ! The hotel had a week commencing July 20th on the River Dionard with Gerard and Richard Franklin grassing 15 Grisle/Salmon and 2 Sea Trout for the week. On the Trout fishing front, results were reasonable, given the high winds and rain. All 36 beats were fished. Bill Thompson enjoyed a prolific day on Loch Tigh Sealg (Stalker's) catching 42 with the best fish at 1lb. John Marshall had 3 fish for 4lb 9oz off Nan Uidh and on another occasion took four for 6lb from the same loch. Perhaps the most pleasing aspect of the month was the good condition of the Sea Trout encountered. |
