A Grilse Of 5lbs Taken By Brian Gibson From Loch Stack
A Brown Trout Of 2lbs Taken By Richard Franklin |
Angling guests at Scourie Hotel had quite a reasonable July - despite awkward conditions in the latter part of the month, when perhaps the best advice was to head for the beach ! The fishing log recorded 316 Brown Trout for July with the majority being returned. The heaviest fish was taken on the 13th from Loch Stack by Richard Franklin - it weighed 3lb 1oz. 72 Finnock/Sea Trout were released on Loch Stack with the heaviest being 2 ½lbs and another dozen over 1 ½lbs. The catch would have been higher but the penultimate week was rough indeed - on one day, with water spouts rising from the loch, the boats could not be launched into Boathouse Bay. Then the final week was simply too hot and bright. On the Salmon front, 17 were landed on Loch Stack. The Franklin party (Father and Son) had 3 fish in 3 days during the middle of the month. The heaviest Salmon (12 lbs) was taken by Michael Wycherley on the 26th - during the heatwave ! The next best fell to Mr Chapman on the 6th. The Franklin party also timed their visit (July 19-24) to the River Dionard well - coinciding with a very wet spell. They had 8 Salmon/Grilse the best of which was 12 lbs. They also landed 6 Sea Trout with the heaviest being 5lbs. Five were taken on Loch Dionard and most were returned.
