September cooled off somewhat from the summer heat and we found strong winds for a fair portion of the month, however when the fishers could get out 328 brown trout were recorded in the fishing book. 55 seatrout/finnock were recorded, best fish being 3lb 8oz and 2lb 8oz all these fish were returned. Loch Stack was particularly windy with very few boats venturing out, only one salmon came off the Loch - 11lb 8oz hen fish which was caught by Stuart Hopper and was returned. 9 salmon and 8 seatrout came off the (often-mispronounced river) best salmon being 18lb to Richard Franklin and 2 fish were taken the rest returned. One salmon/grilse 4lb 8oz to Robert Howell and one seatrout 1lb 8oz were caught off the River Polla in a difficult week with no water and strong winds, the seatrout was returned. Our previous week in August on the Polla produced 4 salmon and 14 seatrout when we were grateful to get one and a half days rain. This river produced its best catch return since records began in 1950. Tight lines Patrick |
