A Salmon Of 5lbs Taken By Mike Sturgeon From Lower Duart |
At Scourie it was a mediocre closing month of the season, with few highlights worthy of mention. The hotel's fishing register detailed 297 Brown Trout for September with big fish being conspicuous by their absence. On Loch Stack, Scourie Hotel's three boats could not be launched for three days early in the month (due to high winds), but still recorded 130 finnock/sea trout for September - all returned. By all accounts the loch saw an encouraging late run of migratory trout. The two heaviest fish (2 ½lbs each) were landed by Chris Cobb. The hotel's Sea Trout total off Loch Stack was more than 300 (with at least 10% over 2lbs and the heaviest fish being 5lbs), compared to 142 last year. Chris Cobb took the hotel's only Salmon (6lbs) for the month from Stack; there did not seem to be a late run of silver grilse. On the 17th Mike Sturgeon had the first and only Salmon (a 5lb Grisle) of the season from Lower Duart on a Black Pennell.
