A Fresh Loch Stack Sea Trout taken in September
A September Brown Trout |
Weather very dry again, very little river fishing possible due to no water. Lochs quite low for the time of the year with water still fairly warm. Dry weather has not helped the flylife, which would have benefited from some rain. Brown trout for the month totaled 557 fish caught. Best fish for the month were :- 3lb 1oz to Richard Franklin on the 13th from Doimhain, 2lb 4oz to Andrew Murray on the 9th from Loch Stack, 2lb 2oz to Peter Williams on the 21st off Blarloch Mor, 2lb 2oz to Michael Cornellisen on the 20th off Strathain and 2lb 1oz to Barry Matterson on the 4th off Mhuirt. 77 seatrout/finnock were caught and returned including one of 5lb 4oz from the River Polla to Mike Sturgeon on the 21st and one of 5lb to the Franklin's from a local river. 11 salmon for the month including two off the Duart system of 5lb 13oz and 5lb 8oz to K. Major and David Smith, three fish came off Loch Stack - 9lb to Alan Carson, 5lb 8oz to Ian Neville and 5lb to Jack Broomhead. In quite a few areas of Sutherland it was the driest September since the 1950s so maybe the results were not too bad!
Tight lines and best wishes, Patrick.
